One of the realizations I've had is that a lot of people, when they read books, would go from one book to another. They read just to collect books. They read for the quantity of it.
When you read books just to read, you miss out on a lot of good information. You may notice that there are a couple of books I continue to talk about. I talked about psycho-cybernetics a lot. I also talk about the power of now. Those two books that I talk about are the ones that changed my life the most. You'll notice that I also talk about Robert Greene a lot, although I’ve read a lot of books.
The reason I keep talking about those is because whenever you find a book that resonates with you, keep reading that motherfucker. Don't go on to the next book. Stick to that book. Keep it like it's a bible.
The reason is that if it resonates with you, it means you’ve got to keep reading it. There's something in there that's resonating with something inside of you. The problem that a lot of people have is they become information junkies.
What you gotta do is do one thing at a time. It's like focusing on one skill on one season. In this case, you can focus on one subject in 1 hour. Focus on one book at a time. In that book, focus on one problem at a time, so you can have something to really apply that book to.
People usually read a lot of books without having anything get into their mind. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you want to improve your life, you should read like a surgeon. Read with precision.
Read knowing exactly why you read so that your brain knows exactly what to look for. Your brain can then connect the dots and give you some more information.
I'm an obsessed dude. When I like a book, I keep reading that book. You keep reading that book and you keep gaining knowledge.
Another thing is that you shouldn't just read the same book. Also read the same author. You'll begin to almost model the way they think.
Find out someone who you admire and read their books. Read their biography and try to extrapolate the mentality that you want out of them.
